For sale is a really nice Officers Sword. to "The 42nd West York Rifle Volunteers ". circa 1866 to 1875.
A short lives Militia unit in the town made famous by the Bronte family.
Howarth raised just one militia company in 1866 There was only 3 Officer listed for the company throughout it`s short history, ie Captain George Merrall, Lieutenant John Sugden and Ensign Harry Greenwood.
By the mid 1870s only one Officer remained until the unit disbanded Captain John Sugden. It has a steel hilt pierced with a crowned bugle horn within an oval cartouche, wire bound cartouch, a wire bound fish skin covered grip, the blade is 83cm in length and is etched on one side with XLII nd W.Y.R. Volunteers and on the other with a crowned bugle horn, both with crossed flags and foliate decoration. Complete with its steel Scabbard. I am only allowed 5 photos if you wish more please ask. A really nice item to a very obscure short lived militia.

What is this web site all about

logo125This site comes from a simple idea that the major sites that allow you to sell your items seem to make charges that are simply over the top, on this site there will always be a free listing and you can renew it free as well, that's our policy and we will stick to it. There is a small charge if you want to put your advert on for a longer period, make it bolder or a priority listing, but that's up to you.  The site exists to give sellers a shop window and to link buyers to sellers.

We don't get involved in the sale itself, sellers and buyers can do the deal between themselves.
